THE GRANOLA CONSPIRACY
Whenever my friends prior to any style homemade dessert try and put their cooking / baking skills down, I always just ask them whether it has sugar in it. If it has sugar in it, we should be all good. However, I'll admit it. Although sugar and I are dating on a very committed basis, it's not necessarily the healthiest of relationships. At age 12, I felt so strongly about it's bad qualities that I gave it up completely for one and a half years. However, that all changed one November's day (surviving my birthday totally sans sugar) when a Marabou Schweizernöt was left open on the livingroom table. Needless to say, there was nothing I could do and my yearlong healthy habit had been broken. So yes, I've chosen to embrace and celebrate sugar and if you've ever tried my friend Tanushri's raspberry cheesecake, you'll know why this bond cannot be broken. However, as a final remark, there's one habit I've held holy since uni, and that's quitting diet coke, because yes, that's bad too. There are just certain things, that shouldn't be in food, and aspartame is one of them. I've tried to get back to that determined mind state of my 12-year old self, but why does granola have to be so good?

I stopped drinking alcohol a few years ago - not only in the name of health - but it makes me very happy to live without alcohol :)

I used to drink at least once juice box everyday when I was in school but then I cut it out of my diet. I also cut pop out. Luckily I don't really like pop that much but I do like to have a coke in the summer during a BBQ. Tastes so right.
ReplyDeleteAlso, it took some time, but I've made the switch to whole grains rather than white. I'm super aware of how much better it makes me feel!

The only thing I've ever quit was smoking. I tried cutting meat out of my life, but that lasted 6 months. I don't think I've ever cut a vice out of my life, although I should start with fast food, which is my biggest sin!

I applaud your self control to avoid sugar! Personally, I try to avoid white flour/overly processed foods. If I'm in the mood for something unhealthy, a homemade version is usually just as tasty!
